About the Museum

Ballarat Tramway Museum is an operational tramway museum on the shore of Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. The operational track and tram shed were once part of the Ballarat tram network, until it closed in the 1970s.

About the Route

There is approximately 1.3 km of restored track. The line runs past the Ballarat botanic Gardens on the western shore of Lake Wendouree (along Wendouree Pde). A return journey takes about 20 minutes.

About the Trams

The museum has a variety of operational vintage trams from Ballarat and Melbourne. The Museum website has more information.

When do the Trams Run and How Often?

Trams run most Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Trams depart at roughly 20 minute intervals between 12:30 and 17:00.

Can I Get There by Public Transport?

Yes!

Bus 10 to Alfredton runs from Ballarat and Wendouree stations on V/Line's Balarat line to Ballarat Aquatic Centre (about 1 block west of the tramway museum).

If you don't want to catch the bus, the Tramway Museum is an easy 20 minute walk from V/Line's Wendouree Station - click for a map.
