About the Railway

The Walhalla Goldfields Railway runs on the former 2'6" gauge Moe - Walhalla line. The section of line between Thompson and Walhalla has been restored for tourist operation, and there are are plans to restore the Thomston - Erica section.

About the Route

The line from Thompson to Walhalla is about 4 km and takes 20 minutes each way.

The train runs mostly through mountainous forest, there are 8 bridges between Thompson and Walhalla. Trains commence at Walhalla and run to Thompson with no intermedite stops.

About the Trains

The Walhalla Goldfields Railway runs various narrow gauge diesels with specially constructed wooden bodied carriages.

When do the Trains Run and How Often?

Trains run on most Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Trains also run every day during school holidays. Click here for running days .

There are generally 3 return services from Walhalla (2 during winter), departing Walhalla at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00 (15:00 train does not operate in winter).

Can I Get There by Public Transport?

No.
